Music Professor Selected to Teach in England

Belton, Texas - Dr. Stephen Crawford, Associate Professor of Music History and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, has been selected to teach in London, England in the spring of 2009. He will teach university courses entitled "Understanding British History through Music," and "The British Invasion: The Influence of British Pop Music in the 1960s." Dr. Crawford is the UMHB faculty member chosen for it's London Studies Program. This trip follows a successful concert and teaching tours of Taiwan and an appearance at the Payangan Arts Festival in Bali, Indonesia.
Dr. Crawford is the principal percussionist/timpanist with the Temple Symphony Orchestra, and music director for the Ritmo y Mas Percussion Group. He holds degrees from Minot State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Crawford is the author of "Building a Better Percussion Section." He was nominated for 2004-2005 Texas Composer of the Year by the Texas Music Teacher's Association and is a four-time winner of the Barclay Music Composition Contest. He was awarded the 2008 UMHB Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2005 UMHB Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship.
